What’s Different?
The Chiopractors at Back-in-Action have advanced training. If you’ve been to other places and not been satisfied then you might find we still have lot to offer. Many, many people do.
What is Chiropractic?
Whether you are struggling to perform as well as you would like, want to improve your wellbeing or are in pain and you just want to make it go away, Chiropractors, especially those with advanced training and experience can often help. The chiropractors at Back-in-Action Preston are part of a primary healthcare profession that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of problems with joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves. These can cause pain and may influence the function of the wider nervous system. Working on all the joints of the body, concentrating particularly on the spine, chiropractors use their hands to make often gentle, specific adjustments (manipulations) and other joint and soft-tissue therapies, as well as giving exercises, and health and lifestyle counselling, to help support the body’s natural ability to heal.
Understandably it’s likely you might have got the impression that chiropractic is all about cracking bones and fixing backs and necks. The truth is, it’s all about helping your nervous system work better. So, while we might spend a lot of time concentrating on your spine, we often need to do that due to the size of effect it has on your nervous system. That’s because there’s a lot of sensors in and around in your spine, sending signals to your nervous system. Equally you might have back or neck pain and we may barely touch your spine or find the problem is coming from elsewhere.
Chiropractic is all about getting your nervous system switched on properly. That helps to get rid of your aches and pains, makes it easier for you to move and enjoy your days (and nights) more fully. It might even help you to be healthier.
“Chiropractic – a science of applied neurophysiologic diagnosis based on the theory that health and disease are life processes related to the function of the nervous system:
irritation of the nervous system by mechanical, chemical, or psychic factors is the cause of disease; restoration and maintenance of health depend on normal function of the nervous system.
Diagnosis is the identification of the noxious irritants (stimuli) and treatment is their removal by a conservative method.”
Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary, 28th Edition
Chiropractors are like Physiotherapists but with a greater emphasis on Medical Sciences during training and are often more Holistic.
What’s involved with Chiropractic Treatment at Back-in-Action in Preston?
The primary aim of chiropractic care given at Back-in-Action is to help restore the balance and symmetry of the body’s structure and function, in order to reduce pain and optimise and maintain health. To do this we try to help reduce the physical, chemical and nervous system stresses that we find. The nervous system is particularly important as this directs and integrates the action of all the body’s systems including the: muscles, joints, organs, immune system and general healing.
How does Chiropractic Treatment Work?
There are sensors in our joints, muscles, ligaments and skin which provide information for our body position sense. This system can influence the response of our muscles. If muscles don’t react with enough speed or strength the body can be suddenly or gradually damaged.
Abnormal function, position or injury can cause a persistent disturbed sensory feedback to the central nervous system which may result in the feeling of pain and other problems.
Chiropractic treatments seek to establish the normal function of joints, muscles, ligaments, nerves and other soft tissues throughout the body, to help restore normal feedback and function of these structures, to assist healing and reduce pain.
Because the sensors in the joints and muscles act like batteries for the brain and the brain controls many of the processes in the body important for health, sometimes chiropractic treatment appears to help other milder health conditions.
