What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a totally non-invasive therapy that is suitable for everyone, including newborn babies.
The ‘cranio’ refers to the top of the spine and the ‘sacral’ refers to the lower end of the spine or sacrum. CST can be applied to all parts of the body and works with the whole person; body, mind and spirit.
CST may be used for acute physical problems such as aches and pains throughout the body, or for emotional problems, such as stress.
A wide variety of healthcare professionals from osteopaths, doctors, etc. to CranioSacral Therapists use CST for its positive effect on so many body functions.
Who can benefit and how?
If we take teenagers for example, who are on an emotional rollercoaster with hormones all over the place, this can often be reflected in their skin with spots and acne. CST can really aid in calming their emotions down.
In adults, inner feelings are often reflected via stress and aches and pains, as people don’t give themselves the time to slow down. CST can help on three levels – mental, physical and emotional.
CST is often used in new-borns that may have become a little misaligned during their pregnancy journey or faced the challenges of assisted birthing. For example, if a baby, due to their traumatic delivery is struggling to sleep, this non-invasive therapy is a gentle alternative to help with settling, relaxing and supporting the continuous bonding relationship.
It can also help with common problems in new born babies such as colic, sucking problems and respiratory difficulties, which may be due to compression arising from birth trauma. These can sometimes develop into problems later in life such as depression, migraines, sinusitis, spinal and pelvic pain.
What happens at a session?
A typical session lasts between 60 and 75 minutes for adults and 45 minutes for children, and during your first session, we will have an in-depth discussion of your case history.
The receiver of the treatment will lie on their back, fully clothed on a treatment couch. If some reason this is not comfortable, sitting or lying on your side can be accommodated.
Lea may start at your feet or your head and using various evaluative techniques she will use the information gained to figure out where your body needs her to start.
Receiving CranioSacral Therapy tends to be very relaxing, positive and pleasurable experience. Ignored or hidden problems are resolved as often as those for which help was initially sought.
Lea has been practicing holistic therapies for over 21years. She has formal qualifications in all the therapies she offers.
Whilst the client/therapist relationship is of paramount importance, the client must have complete confidence in the knowledge, qualifications and skills of the therapist before beginning a programme of treatment.
